I nursed the cold as long as I could, since there would have been nothing they could have done at her pediatrician's except to laugh at me and tell me to go home and use the rubber snot sucker thing (which, along with the humidifier, was my best friend).
Then a few days later she started getting wheezy, and I could feel it getting raspy in her lungs when I was holding her. So I said enough is enough and I made her an appointment, surprisingly getting her in the next day. They said bronchitis, gave us some amoxicillin, great, she's been on that and slowly started to get better.
Then yesterday, of 6 feedings, she ate 19 ounces and I dumped out 17 (very not like her). She wouldn't poop. She was so fussy. This morning she woke up with hardly a wet diaper at all, the wheeze was back, and the snotty nose was full force once again. I called the advice nurse, they said to take her to the ER, so after an exam and some x-rays... sure enough, pneumonia in one of her little lungs.
So she has to continue the amoxicillin and she's on a nebulizer now, too, which she hates. Breaks my heart when she has to have it, even though I know it'll help. Other than that I have to watch her, make sure it doesn't get worse, and follow up with another x-ray in a few weeks. She didn't do any better on food today (might actually have done worse-I have yet to clean out bottles and make a count) and had the worst explosive water poo diaper I have ever seen in my life.
I just feel so awful for her. All I can do is hold her and tell her that it will be ok and that I am trying my best. I think when she's sad and unhappy it makes me the loneliest.
